End of Year Letter

Jul 14, 2026

July 2026

Dear Parent/Carers,

As we approach the end of another school year, it has been a period of spiritual growth and academic success. We are incredibly proud of the resilience, compassion, and commitment your daughter has shown throughout this academic journey.

This has been an exceptionally busy but productive year with much to celebrate. From sporting excellence to academic achievements, we have so much to be grateful for. Our weekly newsletters are packed full of students' accomplishments over the last twelve months. This includes work with external projects to tackle violence against women, debating societies, top-level sporting achievements, numerous school trips, retreats, and academic excellence as students’ progress to higher education at Russell Group universities.

A key highlight of the year was the opportunity to celebrate 175 years of Notre Dame education in Liverpool at the Cathedral. This special occasion enabled students to give thanks to the Sisters of Notre Dame for their dedication to serving others, and to reflect on how their legacy will continue to inspire and provide an exceptional education for many generations to come.

Throughout this year, your daughter has been part of a vibrant school life that reflects our Catholic values and high academic standards. We are especially proud of our Year 11 and Year 13 students, who have completed their public examinations with dedication and grace. We send them forward with our prayers, confident that they will continue to lead lives rooted in faith and service.

As we move into the new academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff who are moving to new schools or promoted posts, this includes, Mrs Jones and Mrs O’Brien. We wish them the very best of luck in their next steps and new adventures.

From September 2026, we will welcome Miss Gee, Teacher of English, Miss Lang, Teacher of Sociology and Mrs Monks, Teacher of Science. We will also welcome back Miss Murphy, Miss Rimmer and Miss Meaco from maternity leave.

Students will finish school at 12.30pm on Friday 17th July. Summer bridging work will be set for students to complete over the summer holidays. A full copy of the academic calendar for 2026-27 can be accessed via the school website www.stjulies.org.uk or the MCAS (My Child At School) app. Please take time to review key dates, including assessments, parent meetings, and faith events.

A Level results day will take place on Thursday 13th August, followed by GCSE results day on Thursday, 20th August. A separate letter has been posted home regarding the plans for both days.

All students will return to St. Julie’s on Wednesday, 2nd September. Tuesday 1st September will be an INSET Day for all staff.

Students will receive a copy of their timetable, attend a Notre Dame welcome assembly, and start lessons from 11:00am. All parents will receive a curriculum, PSHE, and assessment booklet in September. This will provide parents with information regarding curriculum coverage, knowledge development, and the key topics taught in the PSHE/RSE curriculum.

In September, all students will receive a copy of the extra-curricular and enrichment timetable. This is a vital part of school life at St. Julie’s Catholic High School. We encourage as many students as possible to get involved in clubs that run during morning, lunch, and after-school sessions. Every department will offer an enrichment programme throughout the academic year.

Upholding High Standards

Attendance

The attendance target for all students is 100%. Extensive research has shown a direct correlation between attendance and academic attainment. Analysis of the performance of St Julie’s students at GCSE demonstrates a very clear link between attendance and academic success. Students who are never or rarely absent from school significantly outperform those who are frequently late.

Students with 98% attendance typically achieve twice as many Grades 9-5 and Grades 9-7 as students with below 90% attendance.

Punctuality to School

We expect all pupils to arrive on time for AM registration. Pupils who arrive late (after 8:45am) during this period will have their phones confiscated upon arrival and will be supervised in the canteen until the start of period 1. This procedure ensures that late arrivals receive the day’s key messages without disrupting Sacred Time and form time for others. All pupils who are late will be issued a 15-minute detention in the canteen at the end of the school day, after which their phones will be returned. We ask parents and carers to support these expectations by encouraging punctuality and reinforcing the importance of arriving at school on time. This is an important employability skill in preparation for the world of work. Persistent lateness will be monitored and addressed in line with our wider attendance and behaviour procedures

Mobile phones

As many of you noted in the recent mobile phone consultation, our school has upheld a clear and consistent mobile phone policy for the past fourteen years. Students are required to switch off their phones at 8:35am, and they may only be turned on again at 3:05pm. If a mobile phone is seen or heard during the school day, it is immediately confiscated and a detention is issued. Spot checks will continue to take place during the school day. With regards to Sixth Form students they will only be allowed to use their mobile phones in the Sixth Form Common Room/Learning Resource Centre and not in front of younger students.

The DfE clearly states that, ‘all schools should be mobile phone-free environments by default.’ This is now a statutory requirement from September 2026. If students need to contact home during the school day, they can go to the student reception area and request this.

Uniform

As always, we will continue to uphold the high standards and expectations that define our school. We ask all families to review the school’s uniform policy www.stjulies.org.uk and ensure that your daughter returns in full, correct uniform each day, ready to learn and participate fully in school life. This sets her up for the day and promotes a good work ethic. When purchasing and sorting uniform for the next academic year:

  • Jewellery is not permitted. If your daughter wants her ears or nose pierced, it is best to do it at the start of the summer holidays so the piercings can be removed by the time she returns to school. Students are not permitted to wear any piercings in school. Rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other such items must not be worn in school. This is non-negotiable and part of the uniform policy.
  • Shoes must be flat-soled, black, leather, and polishable with a closed toe. Your daughter cannot wear trainers, canvas shoes, plastic shoes (such as Melissa’s), or shoes with accessories like bows.
  • Hair must always be tied back and a natural colour.
  • Kilts must be worn at knee height.
  • False nails, acrylic nails, shellac, gel nails, and nail polish are not allowed in school. These must be removed before returning to school on Wednesday 2nd September.
  • Students cannot wear make-up or false tan to school.
  • If a student wears a coat to school, it must be plain black or navy. Fur, real or fake, is not allowed. Once students are in the building they must remove their coats.
  • Mobile phones and all connected devices such as AirPods and smartwatches are prohibited from 8:35am onwards. AirPods and phones will be confiscated if seen or heard. Smartwatches will be confiscated if suspected of being used for communication purposes.

Strategic aims 2026-29

Our vision for the school will focus on four key areas:

  1. Catholic Leadership, Formation and Service: Catholic girls' schools foster an environment where girls develop self-confidence, leadership skills, and the belief that they can be leaders, a service to society and innovators.
  2. Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice in Education by identifying students' talents and enabling them to flourish. This could be through the arts, STEM, sports, academia, or other creative subjects. This will ensure every student attends well, achieves highly and accesses the full life of the school, regardless of background or need.
  3. Academic excellence for all: Catholic girls' schools provide an empowering environment where young women can focus on their academic growth and confidently explore diverse fields of study. Resulting in consistently high academic outcomes, deep learning and independence through excellent curriculum design and pedagogy.

As we begin the summer break, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and partnership throughout the year. We are also immensely grateful to our dedicated staff, whose commitment and care make such a positive difference every day, to our wonderful students for their hard work, resilience and achievements, and to our governors for their continued guidance, challenge and support.

Together, your contributions help to create a thriving school community where every young person can flourish. We wish you and your family a happy, restful, and enjoyable summer holiday filled with opportunities for relaxation, reflection, and special time together. We look forward to welcoming your daughter back in September, refreshed and ready to embrace all the opportunities, challenges, and successes that the new academic year will bring.

With warm regards,
