On Friday, six Year 9 students attended Hugh Baird College for a tour and a little hands-on experience in the world of Construction.
The students were given a guided tour of the workshops where they saw current students at work on a vast array of projects and had demos of the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
They learnt about the skills gained there, courses at different levels, apprenticeships, LMI and careers in joinery, plumbing and bricklaying. They even had a tour of the full size house which the students were building!
They realised just how important these careers are and what great opportunities - and potential earnings - there are in the world of construction and that these careers are definitely not just for boys: this year has the highest number of girls signing up for courses in construction.
Thanks to Billie and Hannah from The Big Trust; Paula, Dave and Tom from Hugh Baird and, of course, to Ava, Ella, Poppy, Lily, Alana (who came first in the pipe-bending by hand task) and Kyria from Year 9 who were great ambassadors for St Julie's.
