This week, students in all years have had an assembly about #WorldHijabDay.
Led by Year 11 student Rinad and our Chaplain, students learned how World Hijab Day is observed every year on February 1 to honour Muslim women who wear the hijab.
Rinad explained why she wears the hijab but sadly also the discrimination that can be experienced too. Our Chaplain explored some of the other religions that have head coverings and encouraged students to think carefully about their use of language and how to engage in a learning dialogue with people of other faiths.
World Hijab Day is also a day to urge women of different origins and beliefs to try on the hijab and see what it is like to wear it, so our Chaplain kindly volunteered to be Rinad’s model to demonstrate how to wear one! By talking about our different faiths, we can actually learn so much about ourselves.
