Sixth Form students Secure Summer Work Experience

Three of our Year 12 scientists have secured themselves a place on some exciting and prestigious work placements this summer. In2Science is a hybrid programme consisting of both online and in-person activities spread throughout a 4-week period during the summer holidays. During the placement, students gain hands-on experience working with leading scientists, researchers and professionals. There will also be the opportunity for Careers, employability and STEM skills workshops throughout the summer to build students’ skills, knowledge and confidence before they take their next step. Laurie, Scarlotte and Shiefa had to apply for the programme, outlining not only their passion for the subject but why this would benefit them. All three were successful in gaining their ‘virtual’ place and we look forward to hearing about their experiences in the autumn term.

Not only did Laurie secure herself a place on the In2Science programme, she also obtained a place at the National Schools Observatory. Each year the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI), part of Liverpool John Moores University, welcomes fifteen students (16-18 year olds) for a week long work experience programme in conjunction with the National Schools Observatory (NSO). The week consists of talks, workshops and an in-depth group research project supervised by professional astronomers from the department. At the end of the week, students produce a report and present their findings to the rest of the group as well as invited guests and staff from the ARI.
