World Alzheimer's Day

World Alzheimer's Day

Candles were lit, prayers were said and loved ones were thought about as students and staff gathered in The Chapel to mark World Alzheimer's Day - 21st September.  Although we were not in school as it was Saturday, it was felt this is too important a date not to mark.

It was good to show solidarity with each other and share stories of people we know who are living with or have lived with dementia.  While very mindful of the difficulties this can bring, we were also heartened by the stories of the kindness and compassion of those who care.

Candles were placed by the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help surrounded by little wooden hearts which participants were able to take to remind them of the love they have experienced in facing this particular issue.  We pondered if perhaps among us was the future medical researcher who would find the cure for dementia which will surely one day come.
