Summer School took place from July 23 to July 27 for some of the newest members of our school community. There were some lovely new friendships formed, and the girls enjoyed having the run of our brand new school building.
On Monday the girls took part in some DT Activities with Mr Radburn, making their own name badges and designing and making mosaic tiles, using mathematical skills in the process. There was also a tour of the school building and ‘Where’s Wally’ and ‘Getting to Know You’ activities which were led by Miss Skillin from our RE Department.
A book swap box was made available for the girls to use throughout the week and the summer period. This was put together by the Liverpool Learning Partnership with support from BookTrust, The Storybarn at The Reader, Read for Good and The Siobhan Dowd Trust.
On Tuesday the girls learned how to make designs using a computer package with the support of Mr Radburn, and key rings and rulers were made using the DT Department’s laser cutter.
The day continued with Ms Forde from our Food Technology department when they enjoyed learning how to make Oatie Bars. Two of the girls were crowned Chef of the Day for their efforts. All the girls learned about food hygiene and how to clean up!
Sports Activities followed towards the end of the day where a great deal of fun was had by the girls.
Wednesday saw a number of us trying out our acting, singing and dancing skills in the Performing Arts Department. We have some budding new performers among us!
On Thursday we had a ‘Bake Off’ style competition with the making and Decorating of Cup Cakes. As well as our Chefs of the Day being crowned, we had 2 guest judges – Mrs Ruddock and Ms Woof - who picked out two winning entries. The girls can’t wait to start their Food Technology lessons in September and all have a good understanding of the processes involved.
After a short break we all went for a summer walk through Camp Hill to the Walled Garden for some peace and tranquility and to see the trees and flowers in bloom. Sports Activities followed in the afternoon.
We are grateful to our friends at the Siobhan Dowd Trust who funded a trip to Waterstones Bookshop on Friday. The girls were able to choose their favourite book to take home and keep , and we were assisted on the day by Sarah from Waterstones who took good care of us and showed us round the bookshop, giving advice when needed. We had a well deserved treat in the café, with Hot Chocolate and Cake being the popular choice!
After returning to school, the girls had a chance to discuss and reflect on the things that they were excited about for September and any concerns they had. They produced cubes with their worries tucked away on the inside of the cube. The day was finished off with a game of Dodge Ball and their favourite game of 'Sleepy Lions'.
We look forward to welcoming all of our new starters in September. Have a happy and safe holiday!
