Sixth Form Welcome Marine Biologist!

We were delighted to welcome Marine Biologist and former St. Julie's student Dr Rosie Horner into school today to share her experiences of St Julie's Sixth Form and where it took her!

Her journey has included a degree at Liverpool JMU prior to her PhD, addressing international Scientific conferences on both sides of the Atlantic, and training scuba divers!

Dr Horner has also been involved in an ecological monitoring project tagging smelts, a breed of fish, locally in Ainsdale. Her accolades are manifold, but she holds a special place in her heart for a letter from Sir David Attenborough who gave her a huge amount of inspiration.

Speaking to the students about women in STEM, the audience heard refreshingly candid advice including how not getting her first choice of degree proved to ultimately be an advantage, and some very pratical tips for work experience which is truly worthwhile.

We're very grateful to Rosie for making the time to visit us and we hope to see her again in the future.
