Secondary Headteacher of the Year 2020!

Congratulations to our very own Mr Alderman who has been named Secondary Headteacher of the Year by the Archdiocese of Liverpool!

The Archdiocesan awards are a chance to highlight not only on teaching excellence but activities such as contributions to the local community, sporting feats and even entrepreneurship, right the way across the Archdiocese which extends far beyond the City of Liverpool, encompassing Sefton and Knowsley as well as Wigan, Leigh, Chorley and even the Isle of Man.

The awards are normally celebrated at a gala celebration dinner in May, but the very unusual circumstances of 2020 saw the awards pushed back until as far as November, and we're very happy to share the news of Mr Alderman's success with you now.

Chris Williams from the judging panel spoke of the increasing difficulty of selecting winners: "It’s very difficult to identify a short list of three in each of the 12 categories and equally to identify the winning entry in each category. I always say to head teachers when we receive the submissions that it’s both a challenge and an honour in equal measure. For those of us tasked with leading the decision panels, we get to learn and to read so much that we didn’t know about what happens in our schools. That is the joyful thing."

Our congratulations go to Mr Dawson at St Mary's High in Wigan and Mr Symes at Holy Family in Wigan for making the shortlist, but we're looking forward to the day when we can gather together as a whole school community to congratulate our worthy winner - Mr Alderman! Congratulations!
