St. Julie's Hosts 'Project Calibrate'

Science teachers from across the Archdiocese have gathered at St. Julie's for the introductory session of a research collaboration led by the University of Oxford.

Project Calibrate is a three-year research collaboration between the University of Oxford and AQA, funded by the Wellcome Trust, the Royal Society and the Gatsby Foundation that aims to broaden the idea of practical science.

The Science department at St. Julie's were keen to be involved in the project at an early stage. Speaking about the project, Dr. McGinn said "This is a fantastic opportunity for both staff and students. We are looking to contextualise practical science for our pupils and improve teaching methods to reflect our departmental and school strategy of improving retention and outcomes in Science as a vehicle for sustaining true social mobility. Gaining a better understanding of the truly wide variety of methods scientists use in their work will foster a greater dexterity in approaches to problem solving across the curriculum and in later life."

The research project has been initially commissioned for three years and will involve schools across England.
