Year 9 Careers Assembly
Jun 12, 2024

In order to raise awareness of the range of Post 16 opportunities available to students, Year 9 enjoyed a presentation from The Learning Foundry this morning. The Learning Foundry (rated Ofsted 'Good') works across Merseyside and the North West to offer traineeship, apprenticeship and bespoke training programmes in a wide range of business areas for those students who do not wish to progress to Sixth Form. Typically, the majority of St Julie's students choose to remain with us after completing their GCSEs, but we recognise that for students who are unsure or who would prefer a more hands-on approach to learning, it is important to showcase a range of progression pathways to them.

High quality careers education and guidance in school or college is critical to young people’s futures. It helps to prepare them for the workplace by providing a clear understanding of the world of work including the routes to jobs and careers that they might find engaging and rewarding. It supports them to acquire the self-development and career management skills they need to achieve positive employment destinations. With large scale reforms to technical education and skills, it has never been more important to ensure that students are made aware of the full range of education and training options. We'd like to thank Tammy from The Learning Foundry for her presentation and to for the advice and guidance given.

Safety Message for Swifties
Jun 12, 2024

With Liverpool being transformed into “Taylor Town” - School Improvement Liverpool would like to highlight some key safety messages for children, young people and families attending either the concerts or one of the many organised events across the city:

Liverpool FC have put together a series of FAQs and we’d encourage those attending to familiarise themselves with these ahead of time.

We understand that attending a live music concert is a special moment, so we’re sharing some additional considerations to help create a positive and safe experience for our younger attendees.

Taylor Swift will perform at Anfield Stadium on Thursday 13th, Friday 14th and Saturday 15th June 2024.

Staying safe at the concerts

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult of 18 years or over.

Children under 14 are not permitted in the standing area, and young people may be asked to prove their age with ID

Accompanying adults (and young people too) should familiarise themselves with the layout of the stadium – including the entrances, exits, meeting points, first aid stations, and welfare points.

Agree on a meeting point in case you get separated.

Children and young people should carry contact information and remind them they can ask for help from event staff, security or police if they feel unsafe.

Educate children and young people about the importance of staying aware and staying with their group.

Advise young people not to carry large amounts of cash or expensive items that could get lost or stolen.

Encourage regular hydration – which is especially important in crowded and hot environments.

As concerts can also be loud and overwhelming, earplugs may be a suitable option.

Taylor Town events across the city

A full list of organised events can be found here https://www.visitliverpool.com/taylortown/

The previous advice on “staying safe” also applies if attending any other events and it is particularly important that parents and carers take time to remind children and young people of who they can ask for help should they become separated from their group or feel unsafe.

Children and young people should carry relevant emergency contact information with them.

There are no organised events in or around Stanley Park and travel to this area is strongly discouraged.

Roads and travel to the concert

From Thursday to Saturday, Walton Breck Road will be closed from 12pm to 12am, while Anfield Road will be closed to through traffic due to Liverpool Football Club's Anfield Road stadium expansion.

There will be no public parking available at Anfield Stadium and parking enforcement will be in operation.

There will be long wait times for any vehicles using the Utting Avenue drop off and pick up service.

For more information on getting to Anfield Stadium by public transport, visit: https://events.liverpoolfc.com/information/getting-to-anfield

The Fruits of our Labour
Jun 11, 2024

The fruit crop from our school garden this year is proving to be a little short on yield but heavy on intense flavour.

Alongside beautiful blooms we're starting to see some small but beautifully formed fruit. This strawberry was declared by Romy in Year 9 to be the nicest one she'd ever tasted!

Runners Up Place for Year 9 Student at Dot Art!
Jun 6, 2024

It was fabulous to celebrate the artwork of Ciel, Lyla and Erin as part of the Dot Art Schools competition, where all three students were presented with a certificate from the Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

Huge congratulations go to Ciel who was then awarded the Secondary School Runner up for her mixed media piece entitled ‘Azure Leaves’.

Ciel's work will now be exhibited in The Walker Art Gallery until the 7th of July, a real accolade for any artist.  It was so inspiring to celebrate young artists in such an iconic venue, and to be immersed in creativity and passion for the arts.

We think she did an amazing job and recommend a visit to the Walker Art Gallery to see for yourself! The exhibition runs until the 7th July.

Year 8 Explore Subject Marketplace
Jun 6, 2024

Our Year 8 students will soon be making their choices for optional subjects at Key Stage 4.

To help them make well informed decisions our students and their parents attended an options information evening with a subject marketplace that gave them an opportunity to talk directly to staff delivering subjects at Key Stage 4 to find out what they involve and how they can help direct a future career.

Thank you to everybody who attended the evening!

A copy of the presentation delivered on the evening can be found here, and a copy of the options booklet distributed during the event can be found here.

Relay Runners Break Club Record!
Jun 5, 2024

Congratulations to Georgie in Year 9 and Eva in Year 8 who formed part of a record breaking relay team in a recent competition!

The pair were competing in a Youth Development League national athletics competition hosted locally at Wavertree Athletics Centre.

After a phenomenal run, the team took 0.2s from the six year old Liverpool Harriers record in the 4 x 300m event! Prior to that event six years ago the record was unbeaten for twenty years, so this record doesn't change hands very often.

Congratulations to both of our talented athletes!

Farewell Year 13
May 24, 2024

There were tears all round this afternoon as our most senior students reflected on their time at St. Julie’s at the Leavers’ Mass, celebrated this year by Fr. Ed and led by guest Chaplain Mr. Anderson.

Following tradition, the service incorporated the ceremonial exchange of robes as we usher in our new 1804 Society.

After Mass we enjoyed a beautiful address from our Student President, Sophie, who spoke to all and for all as she summed up her experiences at St. Julie's and the many lessons she has taken from it.

Further inspiring words came from Mrs Jones and Mrs McCourt before we enjoyed messages from Form Tutors, and some photo slideshows that had us reaching for tissues! We're incredibly proud of the Class of 2024 and look forward to seeing them take on life beyond school with passion, determination and self confidence.

Whilst all of our students must inevitably leave St Julie’s, we hope that St. Julie’s never leaves them!

Girls On The Go!
May 22, 2024

The Business Studies department welcomed local entrepreneurs Steph and Caitlin from 'Girls on the Go' this week.

Originally a running club, GOTG has evolved into an events organiser and wellness club, focusing on fostering friendships among women in the UK. The girls came in to deliver a presentation to our students about the logistics and challenges faced when starting a business.

Year 10 students were able to get advice, ask insightful questions and apply the knowledge they have learnt in the classroom to real life situations. It was an enjoyable experience for all involved and Girls on the Go would like to help our students get some valuable work experience in the future.

May 20, 2024

On Friday 10th and 17th May, our entire Year 7 group participated in the English Department's annual expedition to The Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth, Yorkshire.

On the trip, the students immersed themselves in fascinating world of Charlotte Bronte - the author of Jane Eyre - and her famous sisters.

From soaking up the joys of village life on the guided tour, to exploring the home Bronte shared with her family, our students enjoyed the most wonderful time - which was made all the better with some glorious weather and an exciting trip to old-fashioned sweet shop!

Bats Up For Staff vs Student Rounders
May 14, 2024

At the end of last week we rounded the week off with staff mounting the defence of their championship status in the staff versus students rounders competition!

Under clear skies on one of the hottest days of the year so far, the teams lined up with some spirited banter from both sides all under the watchful eyes of Mrs Rainey - clipboard in hand!

The students were first to bat, and took advantage of a slightly thin field  to expose gaps and get some great runs in. At the switchover staff faced a densely populated outfield, and some outstanding fielding from Harriette caught Mrs McCourt out at second base!

Mr Torpey responded to the 'encouragement' of the opposition by striking a ball into the depths of Woolton Village that people are still looking for today. We hope no windows were broken!

Despite a little obstruction by some fielders the staff mounted a robust defence of their title and once again prevailed as winners!

Thank you to all of the staff and students who took part, both playing and supporting, in what proved to be a lovely way to end the week. We go again next year!

Liverpool U12s Complete The Set At ESFA Finals!
May 14, 2024

Congratulations to the Under 12 Liverpool side who are ESFA national champions alongside the U13 and U14 teams!

We're enormously proud to have so many players from St Julie's represented in the City's teams, and Jessie, Maisie, Scarlett and Luella faced one of the toughest challenges in the U12 group. They lined up against a strong team from Brighton who had reached the final without dropping a goal all season and were favourites for the win.

Outstanding team work and a robust defence were the order of the day for a Liverpool side that rose to the occasion magnificently. Carrying an astonishing record of clean sheets, the team from Brighton saw their net bulge three times for an outstanding Liverpool win.

The bigger picture at the tournament is even more impressive. Across the genders and age groups, teams from Liverpool contested six finals and won all of them, drawing praise from local MP Ian Byrne.

Congratulations to our under 12 players and all of their team mates, with a special nod to Jessie for her leadership of the side in her third year of Captaincy. You can watch the match in on full on the ESFA Channel on Youtube.

U14 ESFA National Champions!
May 13, 2024

We bring you more news from the Bet365 Stadium in Stoke, where the U14 Liverpool team followed the precedent set by the U13s last weekend and secured victory!

The game was a white knuckle ride that saw Liverpool take and early lead, only for York to respond with by scoring three times.

With a mountain to climb, the Liverpool side mounted a thunderous response played out in an electrical storm, with play suspended twice due to lightning in the area. This didn't deter the players, who netted their fourth and winning goal with just two minutes left to play.

We offer our emphatic congratulations to St Julie's students Faye, Yasmin and Katie and to all of their team mates on a memorable cup final victory!

You can watch the match in full on the ESFA YouTube channel.

Wellbeing Ambassadors Complete TOTEM
May 9, 2024

Over two days last week our wellbeing ambassadors across year 8-10 have been taken part in Merseyside Youth Associations peer mentoring course TOTEM.

Designed and developed by young people for young people, ‘Talking Openly To Embrace Mental Health’ (TOTEM)’ gives them the skills to become confident peer mentors with a specific focus on mental health and emotional wellbeing; empowering them to champion mental health and tackle stigma within their school or organisation.

This peer mentor course focuses on mental health- specifically, it enables young people to recognise the signs and symptoms, understand what mental health is, build resilience and teach them how to have a conversation with someone who is struggling with their mental health.

The two day course finished with a Dragons’ Den style activity, where the groups  worked together to plan how they will implement peer mentoring within their school. The groups did a fantastic job at pitching their ideas and answered some tough questions from the 'dragons'. We look forward to seeing these ideas come to life in school. Well done to all involved

The Sound of Silence
May 9, 2024

Last week, Hannah and Camille took on the challenge of a sponsored silence raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, a charity they both have a personal connection with.

After being silent for an entire day, they raised a grand total of £343.43! Well done to both students for their dedication to charity work.

Festival Performers Secure Funding!
May 9, 2024

After the success of this year's Now Festival performance, St Julie's applied to work with Youth Bank, an organisation who have been granted funding by the NSPCC to produce projects in Liverpool to tackle violence.

Last week, students attending a meeting in Alder Hey where they pitched their idea, a secondary school tour delivering their performance, educating students on ACEs and signposting students to where they can find support.

Additionally, they pitched to have their performance professionally filmed to allow their message to be spread further.

After a challenging interview where students answered important questions such as their aim, target audience and funding allocation, we were delighted to hear that they had been successful and have been granted £1000 towards the tour and filming.

Presentation for Talented Designer
May 8, 2024

This week we welcomed fashion designer Kirsty Doyle back into school to meet with Holly who had entered the design competition with The KD Club and Randox Grand National.

Although Holly wasn't the overall winner she was chosen by Kirsty to receive a special commendation for her design which showed natural artistic flair and creativity that shone.

Holly received a certificate and gift box full of essentials to get her started as a young fashion designer.

Whilst in school Kirsty also visited the art department to see how Talula had brought her entry to life, turning her drawings into a fully wearable dress.

Both Holly and Talula's designs will be displayed in an art gallery along with some other competition entries - we'll let you know more as we get it!

Congratulations to International Dance Champions!
May 8, 2024

Congratulations to Iyla in Year 9 and Lillia in Year 7 who were part of the the troupe that won the international Destination Dance competition on Sunday!

The students dance with Boom Productions dance school in Old Swan and compete regularly across the country. The 'Destination Dance' competition saw them dance against 900 other acts to prevail.

It's not uncommon for tournament winners to talk about their difficult journey to the title, but in this case it's quite literal - the team coach broke down! You can read more about that adventure in the story published in the Liverpool Echo.

Prize Winning Performance at Choir Competition!
May 7, 2024

On Tuesday evening, St Julie’s choir performed at the Catholic Secondary School Choir Competition in the Liverpool Cathedral Crypt.

Students performed two pieces, a liturgical performance of ‘Gloria’, followed by ‘You Will Be Found’ from the musical, Dear Evan Hansen. It was a fantastic evening of music with judges commending St Julie’s on their beautiful range and tuning.

The judges commented that their performance had real heart and how lovely it was to see them all smiling while they performed. Year 11 Pianist Haley received a special mention as the only student accompanist.

As the evening came to a close, students were delighted to be awarded third place with their prize being presented by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon. The top prize went to St Edwards College. Well done to all participating schools.

Congratulations to National Champions!
May 7, 2024

Congratulations to the new national English Schools' Football Association U13 Girls Champions. The team from Liverpool fielded a massive four players from St. Julie's!

The players competed at the national final held this year at the Bet365 Stadium, the home ground of Stoke City.

The game didn't get off to the best of starts, with Swansea taking an early lead from an outstanding strike, followed by increasing the lead from a penalty.

Liverpool had to dig deep, but with outstanding team play and individual brilliance the players overturned the two goal deficit and then added another brace to secure a 4-2 win and lift the trophy.

The experience was a tremendous taste of success for Imogen and Faith, and doubly delicious for Amelia and Libby who emerged victorious in the same competition last year. Congratulations to our students and all of their team mates from across the City.

You can watch the game in full on the ESFA Channel on Youtube.

Cheerleading Captain Competes Internationally!
May 3, 2024

Congratulations to Hollie in Year 8 who has recently captained the Airborn Allstars Delta cheerleading team at the world championships in Florida!

The team is made up of 16 athletes who live across the north west and they regularly compete in events across the country. The sport is fiercely competitive, and qualifying for the World Championships is very difficult. It was very satisfying for the team to earn qualification here in Liverpool at one of the country's biggest events which was held at the M&S Arena.

The team competed in the Under 16 category, making Hollie one of the youngest members of the squad and we are all particularly proud of the leadership she has demonstrated to earn Captaincy.

Despite a strong performance, the team's tournament this year ended in the semi-finals, with only two teams from the UK progressing through to the final rounds.

Well done to Hollie and the whole squad for representing themselves and our city so well.

May 2, 2024

Our student community have shown their continued support for our Year 11 Lourdes Pilgrims with another popular cake sale.

The Trials Of Year 8!
May 2, 2024

Last week saw a group of Year 8 students visiting Manchester Metropolitan University to participate in a moot court mock trial about hate crime.

The experience helped garner an immersive understanding of how a court works, in both the procedural and practical sense.

Students also benefited from a visit to the museum to explore the many exhibitions which included a very popular dinosaur exhibit! Thank you to all of the students for engaging so well with the activity.

St Julie’s Triumph At National Football Tournament!
May 2, 2024

This week we sent a team to the Girls’ Football Festival – a national tournament organised by Girls’ Schools Association and Independent Schools’ Football Association and hosted by King’s High in Warwick.

St Julie’s were the only state school competing but our players were determined to play their best and have fun doing it. Their reward was completion of the entire tournament with an unbeaten record, emerging as tournament champions!

Congratulations to all of the players for their resilience, commitment and sportsmanship!

Students Explore the 'Life of Pi'
May 1, 2024

On Wednesday evening Year 9 GCSE Drama students had a great introduction to their new course as they went to the Liverpool Empire to enjoy a performacne of 'The Life of Pi'.

Puppetry, magic and storytelling combined in a unique, Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation of the best-selling novel.

Students were wowed by the performance and are already looking forward to their next GCSE theatre trip.

On Thursday 06 June 2024 from 5pm to 7pm there will be a presentation in the Dorothy Stang
Theatre at 5.45pm and again at 6.15pm for pupils in Year 8 and their parent/carers.

Great Big Dance Off
Apr 25, 2024

On Wednesday evening St Julie's Catholic High School's KS3 and KS4/5 Dance Teams performed at The GREAT Big Dance Off national competition.

Key Stage 3 students performed emotive choreography entitled, 'My Sister's Keeper' whilst older students delivered an empowering message about equal rights and beauty standards in 'The Women'.

Both teams were outstanding and received wonderful feedback from the judges and audience. Unfortunately, both teams narrowly missed out on progressing to the next stage of the competition, however we are extremely proud of all the students, their talent, dedication and team spirit.

We look forward to entering both pieces into further competitions this summer term.

Year 7/8 Footballers Bow Out of Merseyside Cup
Apr 25, 2024

This week our combined Y7/8 football team played in the Quarter Finals of the Merseyside Cup against a team from Calderstones.

The match started out with both sides enjoying a fair amount of possession but not getting any shots away on target. St Julie's broke the deadlock, taking the lead from Imogen (Year 8) with a fantastic free kick outside the box lobbing the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, Calderstones pulled it back and won the fixture with a final score of 3-1. The players were upset but displayed great sportsmanship to Calderstones at the end of the match.

Congratulations to our Player of the match, Faith in Year 8 who we celebrated for outstanding defending.

Everybody's Talking...
Apr 24, 2024

Following a record-breaking three-year West End residency and sold out tour, this week, 75 Performing Arts students were lucky enough to see the critically acclaimed musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in the Liverpool Empire.

The musical tells the story of Jamie, a sixteen year old living on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in but supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness into the spotlight.

Students were impressed by the fantastic chorography, catchy songs and fabulously funny moments.
