STEM Circle in Video!

We want to launch our own STEM Club at St Julies next year and develop a more focused link between the key areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

On a recent visit with students to the Big Bang event at Aintree in Liverpool, we were amazed to see the diverse range of collaborative projects on display by students and professionals alike and as a result we have decided to use our key strengths in Science and Technology as a starting point for our Club in September.

In the video, we thought we could use Biology as a starting point linked to the creative elements and pupil talents with a slight play on words by focussing on the plant stem at the centre of the art work. This was then developed as the picture took shape, with the branches protruding from the central stem to encompass all areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

We chose to produce the art work on a covered area of the school yard for maximum impact and as a result we were able to explain the concept to the many passers by who were keen to learn more and get involved themselves next year. We also learnt a bit about time lapse photography ourselves during the process and this is something we will develop in our club to record our efforts as we go.

For more information on STEM activity and the STEM Club, watch out for the announcements in September! The video has been entered into a national competition organised by the Biology Society which will be judged in October. We'll let you know how we get on! We hope you enjoy watching the video as much as we did making it.
