St. Julie's Reads!
St. Julie's became a celebration of reading today to mark World Book Day 2013!
The English department have been hosted reading breakfasts in the LRC for pupils to come and enjoy reading for pleasure before school. Year 7 pupils dressed as their favourite literary characters and raised money for Mencap in a charity costume parade. Our LRC Manager, Mrs Webster, joined in the fancy dress fun and spent the day as the Cat in the Hat.
Our fancy dress winners were:
- 1st place: Remi McGann (7R) as Juliet (Romeo & Juliet)
- Runner Up: Harriet Carson (7N) as Victoria (The Twilight Saga)
- Runner Up: Louise Bramwell (7R) as Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games Trilogy)
As you can probably see from the photos, the judges had a hard decision to make!
All around school, staff displayed posters sharing what they are currently reading. The varied and unusual choices certainly sparked some interesting conversations between staff and pupils.
Roll on next year for an even bigger festival of reading!
