Billy Wonderful on Tour!

Jan 30, 2009

The Everyman Theatre comes to you with the game of a lifetime!

Following their successful tour of John Fay’s Cruel Sea in 2007, the Everyman and Playhouse theatres bring Billy Wonderful to your doorstep this February.  For a fast-paced 90 minutes, this new play by one of the North West’s most prominent young writers, Nick Leather, tells the story of young Billy who dreams of fame and fortune as a footballer.  Directed by Serdar Bilis (The May Queen, Proper Clever) and with a cast that includes Liverpool actors Neil Caple and David Lyons, Billy Wonderful plays away for a month with a fixture at (venue name) on (date).

Billy’s made the squad and it’s wonderful. He’s down the wing and he’s flying. He doesn’t believe in much, but he believes in this...in football. As the Blues and the Reds come out to play, it’s D day for Billy...Derby Day.  Will Billy keep his head or will he fall foul of fame and fortune?

Grab your scarf, wear your footie tops, and bring your banners for 90 minutes of high energy as you experience a Liverpool Everton derby day, following the highs and lows of the match as they are mirrored with Billy’s life from aged 8 to 30.

Neil Caple plays Billy’s dad, ‘Billy Snr’ and is best known as Marty Murray in Brookside and on the Liverpool stage in Two, Lost Soul (Royal Court Theatre), and The Flint St Nativity, Unprotected, and Breezeblock Park (Everyman and Playhouse).  David Lyons plays ‘Billy’ and was at the Everyman in 2008 in Ten Tiny Toes and also played Stuart Gordon in Brookside.  Liverpool actor Rob Law plays Billy’s cousin ‘Moz’ and Shaun Mason (Council Depot Blues, Stags and Hens, Royal Court Theatre, Revengers Tragedy) and Michael Ledwich (Once Upon A Time At The Adelphi, Liverpool Playhouse, BBC Liverpool Nativity 2007) take on various roles.
