St. Julie's Honours Sisters of Notre Dame

Today, 18 November 2011, saw the presentation of a special commissioned glass plaque to the Sisters of Notre Dame community in Liverpool. The glass plaque showed the crests of the two Notre Dame Schools in Liverpool - St Julie's Catholic High School and Notre Dame Everton Valley, with the number ‘160' underneath. The two school communities celebrated earlier in the year 160 years since the Sisters first came to the City to set up their educational mission for the poor girls of Liverpool.

Mr Alderman, Headteacher, was invited by Sister Joyce Priest SND, Moderator, to the Convent at Woolton Road, and took with him two Sixth Form students, Kate McCormack and Jessica Lunt. The two students were selected because of their recent appointment as Junior Lord Mayors of Liverpool. This is a great honour for the girls and for the school as it is highly unusual for any school to have two Junior Lord Mayors.

The picture above shows Kate handing the plaque to Sister Joyce in the Chapel of the Convent. The presentation was made at the end of a special Mass today.

Mr Alderman spoke of his deep gratitude to the Sisters for the work that they have done over 160 years for the people of Liverpool and reassured the Sisters that their educational mission continues today and that the two girls present embodied all that was good and special about the Notre Dame education.
