St. Julie's Catholic High School welcomes Bishop Eton Students!

St. Julie's Catholic High School welcomes Bishop Eton Students!

Our lives at St. Julie's have been enriched this week with the arrival of 300 pupils from Our Lady's Bishop Eton Primary School.

As you might be aware, Bishop Eton suffered from an electrical fire which has rendered large parts of the school temporarily unusable. Whilst work is rapidly being completed to bring the school back to normal operation, we were only too happy to offer support to our neighbours.

After a meeting on Monday 10th October between the two Headteachers it became apparent that with a little adaptation it would be possible to provide a comfortable learning environment to every student either on our main site or at our Sunflower Vocational Centre, and the advantages of keeping the primary classes together meant that St. Julie's would soon be welcoming all of Years 1-5.

With the first students arriving the very next day, Monday quickly became very busy! Timetables were adjusted, resources reallocated and staff advised. As a Secondary School we don't have lots of furniture suitable for very young children, so Monday evening was spent emptying five classrooms at Bishop Eton of their tables and chairs which then came over to St. Julie's.

Thanks to the willingness of all of the staff and students from both schools, the week has gone very smoothly indeed with students quickly settling into new arrangements. Our guest students have been impeccably behaved and a real pleasure to have on the campus. We're looking forward to supporting some activities throughout next week that take advantage of some of the extra facilities that our school can provide the younger students...more on that next week!

Perhaps most importantly, our own students are demonstrating in all of their actions that we uphold our Mission Statement, part of which states: "St. Julie's aims to be a Catholic learning community where friendship and enjoyment are experienced by all and a welcome is offered to those who visit".

We've had some heart warming comments from parents, some of which include:

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the staff and pupils of St Julie's for accommodating the pupils of Bishop Eton. It has been a true example of the community pulling together and Christian values in action."

"My 2 daughters are thrilled to bits and can't wait to tell me about their days in school."

"I have a son in year 5 and a daughter in year 2, both of whom are enjoying being at your school. My son especially is impressed - he keeps going on about how clean your dining room is and thinks it's very nice that the 'girls' keep waving to him!!"

"How lucky we are to live in such a wonderful city where our neighbours are so willing to offer us a helping hand. All your efforts and hard work in ensuring the safety, happiness, well being and education of our children have been greatly appreciated."

The schedule of work currently means that our guests are set to return to their own school on Monday 31st October. We hope that they take some fond memories of St. Julie's with them, and that we see them again soon!
