Royal Shakespeare Company Dazzle at St. Julie's

Staff, students and members of the public have been treated to an outstanding and inspiring performance of Hamlet at St. Julie's by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The cast staged two performances, the first being in the afternoon for our Year 7 students and invited primary school guests. The second performance took place in the evening and was a public performance.

This production of 'Young People's Shakespeare: Hamlet' uses a script that has been edited by Bijan Sheibani and Alvin McCraney to capture all of the essence, excitement and tragedy of Hamlet whilst being more accessible to younger people than the traditional four hour performance.

Each performance was followed by a question and answer session with the cast which proved to be amusing, informative and often insightful. The actors shared tips about performing and learning lines, gave additional depth about aspects of the play and characters, and told a little of what inspired them to become actors (including watching ‘Home Alone' for one of our performers!)

The audiences were hugely appreciative of the RSC visit, and we'd like to thank all members of the Company, Mrs Doherty and our Drama staff for their hard work in organising both the performances and the associated primary school workshops, and finally our friends at the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres who helped to bring the production to us through our unique partnership.
