Geography Field Trip to River Alyn

Geography Field Trip to River Alyn

On the 28th and 29th September Year 10 and 12 got their feet wet visiting the River Alyn in North Wales!

The visit was, however, entirely scientific as students studied how river processes change along it's course.

Various sites along the course of the river were visited, and students completed tests to find parameters such as the cross-sectional area, wetted perimeter, the hydraulic radius of the channel, the velocity of the river flow and the size and angularity of the bed load.

All of the students were enthusiastic and enjoyed participating in some real field geography. The glorious weather over the two days meant that the sun screen had to be broken out, but it also meant that the final site of the river had no water in it!
