Sixth form Filmclub members were inspired by a visit from local, BAFTA-nominated, filmmaker Martin Wallace. The group, who are currently launching their own Filmclub, were offered a valuable insight into the challenges of filmmaking.

As well as showing the students extracts from some of his productions, including the trailer for his forthcoming feature, Nowhere Fast, Martin answered questions on a range of subjects and gave valuable advice to those considering careers in the media.

He also spoke of the value of mixed programming: "When I was growing up, there were only three or four television channels. So after watching, say, This Is Your Life, there'd be a weird German film or a documentary that you'd end up seeing because we didn't have hundreds of alternatives to choose from. This was very powerful because it pushed you to see things that you might not bother with otherwise, but could have a profound impact on your life."
