On Saturday 2nd April students and staff departed for Innsbruck, ready to hit the slopes. They arrived in the afternoon to glorious sunshine and almost tropical temperatures in Austria and felt a little concerned that their cases were packed with snow-boots and ski-suits!

They needn't have worried - after a ski and boot fitting session on Sunday morning they hit the slopes of Matrei and were more than relieved to find plenty of snow! Under the watchful eyes of ski instructors Flo, Reiner and Clarissa, the students went from strength to strength.

The Advanced group developed their skills on black runs, throwing in a few jumps here and there while the Intermediate group wowed on the red runs and waved happily to the Beginner Group from the ski lifts.

The Beginner Group were a bit wobbly on their skis for the first two days then after that they zoomed down the blue runs, finishing with red runs towards the end of the week.

At night the group took part in Austrian bowling, village walks and a ‘taste test' quiz back at the hotel. On the last night they invited Clarissa to share pizza with them in a local award-winning pizzeria as a final thank you for all her support during the trip.

Although skiing is sometimes considered a hazardous activity there were no serious injuries to report, although one Year 10 student crashed through a fence splitting her ski suit and Mrs Jones managed to acquire some massive blisters on her shins!

All in all, students and staff had an amazing time, arriving home in Liverpool tired, tanned and having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A big thank you must go to all students for their team spirit and exemplary behaviour throughout!
