Introducing Chair of Governors Mrs Smith

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to introduce myself as the newly elected Chair of Governors of St Julie’s Catholic High School succeeding Sister Margaret SND, who served the Governing Body for many years with great dedication and commitment.

I was born and educated in Liveipool and before my retirement 2 years ago I had spent almost 40 years in education in Liverpool serving as a teacher, member of the Senior Leadership Team in a Catholic Secondary School and 13 years as Headteacher of a Liverpool Secondary School.

I am delighted to be elected Chair of Governors and have just spent a weekend in Belgium and France with Mr Alderman, Mr Anderson, Mrs Jones, Mr Cooban and the 1804 Society - The 1804 Society is our student leadership team named after the year in which the Sisters of Notre Dame were founded by St. Julie and Franchise. Sister Margaret joined us as our guide as we “walked in the footsteps of St Julie.“ It was a very enjoyable and inspiring pilgrimage weekend which developed further my knowledge and understanding of the very special ethos of St Julie’s Catholic High School. The members of the 1804 Society were exemplary in their enthusiasm, dedication and behaviour as we enjoyed visits to many places including Cuvilly, St Julie’s birthplace, and Amiens where in 1804 St Julie and Franchise took the vows which established the Sisters of Notre Dame who founded our school. It was a privilege to spend the weekend with our young people, your daughters, who lead our student body.

I know there will be many challenges ahead for the Senior Leadership Team, Staff, Governors , Pupils and of course you as parents as we strive to ensure that our pupils have all the opportunities that they so richly deserve.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you in order to provide the best possible education for the pupils of St Julie’s Catholic High School.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Brigid Smith
Chair of Governors
