The Big Sing Resumes

On the first Friday of each month, before the school day starts in earnest, students and staff gather by the statue of St. Julie for Hymns Old and New.

The First Friday Band led the congregation in an old hymn dating back to the days of the American Civil War - Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory of the Coming of the Lord.   These were the words with which Martin Luther King concluded his final speech in 1968.  The exuberant rock and roll version played today certainly woke everyone up and got them in the mood for a wonderful day.

Continuing the Civil Rights theme, the other hymn was We Shall Overcome which was most famously sung on the Freedom March on Washington in 1963.  This deeply spiritual hymn drew everyone into a feeling of unity with those who had gone before.

Thanks to all for being there especially some of our new Year 7 students along with our Performing Arts Ambassadors and 1804 Society.
