Presentation of Hillsborough Memorial Artwork

The Art department were joined by three visitors who spent the day with us as part of the official hand-over of the acrylic painting depicting the two children hand in hand at the Everton versus Newcastle game which took place at Goodison Park on 17th September 2012. The painting was donated to St Julie's to mark the opening of our new building in 2017.

Artist Phil Garrett, Hillsborough survivor Richie Greaves and Stephen Kelly, brother of Hillsborough victim Michael spent the day with groups of Year 7, 10, 11 and 12 Graphics and Art students and used their own experiences from the past twenty nine years to discuss truth, justice and accountability across all walks of life and in particular, Year 11 considered ways of coping with the stress associated with exams at present.

The pupils were respectful and remained focused and engaged with the visitors throughout the day, sharing some of their own art work in the classroom as the event progressed.

We sincerely thank all three of our visitors for their visit and hope to welcome Phil back in the near future for some specialist art workshops in the near future.
