Remembrance Verse

Today St. Julie's marked Remembrance Day with a respectful silence, which was then followed by a recitation of both traditional and original verse.

One of the pieces recited was a work by Emily Thorbinson in Year 10:

It was only a matter of time,

Until the thing out to get him, finally crossed that line

And as his life drifts away from him, flashing before his eyes

There is no time to waste thinking about how we was tricked to his death with lies

As he says goodbye peacefully to the people which he loves

Wishing them well and hoping they are proud

To say he was their husband, son and dad not just another face in the crowd

And when he rises to the gates of Heaven, to the angel he will tell,

Just another soldier reporting sir

I've served my time in Hell

The recital was performed from within the memorial art installation and offered a poignant and thought provoking reflection for all of those present.
