St. Julie's Celebrates National Poetry Day!

On Thursday 28th September, thousands of people around the country celebrated National Poetry Day - and St. Julie's did too! In English lessons and in form time, pupils read, listened to and engaged with different poems around this year's theme of Freedom.

We also saw lots of Year 7 and Year 8s take part in the St. Julie's Poetry Treasure Hunt. Six poems about freedom were hidden in six departments around the building. Competitors had to find the poems, answer a question on it and state which department it was found in. The poems were:

Caged Bird - Maya Angelou

Invictus - William Henley

Mask of Anarchy - Percy Shelley

The New Colossus - found on the plaque underneath New York's Statue of Liberty

Redemption Song - Bob Marley

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud - William Wordsworth

Well done to everyone who took part in the treasure hunt and to all prize winners.

Look out for more from the day on our St. Julie's Reads Blog!
