Across The Ocean

Across The Ocean

Well, St. Julie’s has done it again!  It’s another first, we believe, in the worldwide community of Notre Dame Schools.

On Thursday, 16th February, the inaugural Across the Ocean service took place joining students and staff from the Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, USA with two hundred students and staff of St. Julie’s.  This event had been postponed from last week when the Academy of Notre Dame was closed due to snow in Massachusetts but it didn’t put us off.

The two schools collaborated to celebrate our shared Notre Dame heritage and, of course, our patron saint.  There were greetings, a poem, a dance, prayers, video diaries and our favourite hymns.  We even sang “Happy Birthday” to Paige in Y8.

It was brilliant to see our sister students from across the ocean and to hear the different accents which emphasised the diversity of this great community founded all those years ago by St. Julie – a community which started with just three women taking vows in the French town of Amiens.  Here we are, over two hundred years later, and over three thousand miles apart, still remembering and singing the words of St. Julie: "Qu’il est bon, le bon Dieu!"

Thanks to all who participated and to those who did the fancy technical stuff which enabled us to join hearts Across the Ocean!
