Engineers Get Acquainted With Aerospace Hardware!

On Friday, the sixth form engineering team had a VIP experience at the Farnborough Air Show. The team won the trip as part of the 'Inspired Prize' award they earned at the National Science and Engineering Competition at the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham. The prize was sponsored by BAE Systems who treated us to an amazing day.

Farnborough is the birthplace of British Aviation, and they hold the air show every two years. The team got to try out some of the most advanced technology used in the armed forces and also the professional sporting world. They also got to sit in the cockpit of two Royal Air Force planes, the Typhoon and the Hawk, and also the US army helicopter the Black Hawk.

In the afternoon there was lots of flying displays, planes with wing walkers, the A380 which is a double decker plane, and spectacular displays from the Typhoon jet which can travel at 1320 miles per hour, and the F35 which can hover in the air!

A great day was had by everyone, thank you BAE Systems!
