St. Julie's Students Stage Mini World Cup!
In celebration of the FIFA Women’s World Cup recently in Canada, a group of sixth form students organised a girl’s only tournament at Belle Vale Community Primary School in Gateacre for eight local primary schools in the area.
Running from 10am-2pm, pupils from Year Five and Year Six had the opportunity to take part in small sided skills classes as well as the World Cup themed competition and also had their faces painted by the students. The students have been planning the tournament since April as part of their ‘Organising Sports Events’ unit within their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma.
Food was provided in the form of a BBQ catered by Food for Thought, a not-for-profit school meals company owned by its schools across Liverpool. Pupils taking part in the tournament were from The Trinity, St Gregory’s, St Nicholas, Belle Valle, Norman Pannell, Our Lady of the Assumption, St Austin’s and Millstead Primary School.
Two signed Everton Ladies shirts were up for grabs for the Team of the Tournament and a Fair Play Award as well as trophies for the winning team and medals for all participants.
Courtney Cruickshanks, one of the students who organised the event, said: “I’ve really enjoyed getting involved in the organisation of this tournament and having the chance to put what we have learnt in the classroom into practice. All of the children seem to be having a fantastic time which makes all of the hard work worthwhile.”
