KS3 Technology

Term 1 Product Design

Pupils will undergo a project where they design and make a wooden toy train with a moving mechanism. This project aims to familiarise pupils with the workshop and its tools and machinery.

Assessment - All classes will have Focused Marked Tasks which assess their creativity and ability in practical work. The final practical outcome will be assessed in conjunction with their theory work to ascertain their final grade.

Term 2 Food Technology

During your first visit to the food department you will be introduced to Hygiene & Safety and the working routine that is to be used each lesson.

You will learn the basic skills of weighing and measuring, chopping and slicing, creaming and rubbing in, and incorporate these into recipes such as apple crumble, oatie bars, scones, pizza, fruit salad, banana cakes and pineapple upside down cake.

You will also learn how to write a basic specification for your recipe and write a production plan for what you have made. You may even be able to work out the cost of your recipe

Term 3 Textiles Technology

Assessment - All classes will have Focused Marked Tasks which assess their creativity and ability in practical work. The final practical outcome will be assessed in conjunction with their theory work to ascertain their final grade.

Pupils will complete a project where they design and make an electrical USB mood light using a range of skills and materials. This project aims to familiarise pupils with the concept of electronics and the soldering skill.

Assessment - All classes will have Focused Marked Tasks which assess their creativity and ability in electronics. The final practical outcome will be assessed in conjunction with their theory work to ascertain their final grade/level.
