We are confident that, based on current weather reports of light snow overnight and during Monday, school will resume as normal on Monday 21st January and for the rest of the week. We regret that due to deteriorating weather conditions we are dismissing pupils at 11:30am today. We've rounded off the 2012 Autumn Term in style, with a party from the Juice FM Roadshow! If you're at Panto in St. Helen's this year, look out for one of our students! Where would you see a Sumo wrestler, an ogre and a caveman walking through a chocolate factory? At St. Julie's Sixth Form Fancy Dress of course! The heat was on in our food technology room today as some visiting primary students battled it out to make a yule log! Students have had the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of a Christmas Market today in our MFL department! Shoppers at our local branch of Tesco enjoyed a festive welcome this week from our Carol Singers! Our theatre almost had the roof raised a little higher by the enthusiam shown by Year 7 students in our Christmas Songfest Competition! We've been lucky to be visited by students from two Primary Schools this week. Members of our Dig-iT club have been getting into the Christmas Spirit with our annual Yule Log competition! The school have united today to celebrate Advent in a service of reflection, song and expression. Friday night saw eighty of our singers take to the stage to perform at the Liverpool Lighthouse for the Feast Of Choirs event to thunderous applause! The Design & Technology department was pleased to welcome the return of two former students earlier this week. We've had eyes down for prizes in our annual Christmas Bingo for Years 7 and 8! Students at St. Julie's have been busy composing poems - not less than 160 of them! Each one was submitted for a poetry competition called 'The Poetry Games'. St. Julie's played host to a very special visitor from Lapland today, as Santa popped in for our Christmas light switch on! Today we bid a fond farewell to Miss Conway, who has been teaching Geography at St. Julie's this year. Pupils of St Julie’s have been given the opportunity to put their Faith in action as we enter into this festive season. All this week pupils are being invited to put our mission statement into action, by joining in with Amnesty International's annual 'Write for Rights' campaign. We were delighted to welcome so many parents and students from Year 9 to our Key Stage 4 transition information evening tonight. Each form group in Year 7 has enjoyed a day's retreat this half term, led by our school Chaplain and a fabulous team of Sixth Form Students! It was an unconventional day at St. Julie's today, as the whole school came off timetable for our second PSHE day of the year. St. Julie's features in the top 200 list of most improved schools for GCSE Performance. The whole school, with some help from the Parents and Friends Association, joined today in fun activities to raise £628.75 for Children In Need! Geography students in Year 9 had an interesting lesson today exploring concepts of globalisation through a fashion parade! After all their hard work on the Primary School Dance Tour, our Year 8 Dance Company are off to a show! Science club students have been busy exploring principles of convection - by making lava lamps! Ahead of Remembrance Sunday this weekend, students have marked Remembrance Day with a ceremony conducted by some of our cadet students. Today all the dance students are off to watch the ballet 'Coppelia' performed by the English Youth Ballet at Southport theatre. We've been delighted to receive visitors from Our Lady of the Assumption, St. Andrew of the Apostle and Holy Family Primary Schools. We'd like to thank Joyce Conway (pictured right), one of our lunchtime supervisors, for her 19 years of sterling work at St. Julie's. Some of our Year 9 students have been busy creating radio adverts for a safety campaign about swimming in reservoirs. It's no wonder that our dance students are jumping for joy - three students are performing in different professional productions this Christmas! It's been an exciting week for the Year 10 Dance Students who have been working alongside the English National Ballet! Year 9 pupils have been harnessing social media in a positive way this week, using our school's twitter feed to publicise safety messages. Click 'more' to see their video! We've had a brilliant time this week being visited by students from no less than three primary schools! St. Julie's magnificent reputation in cross country running is being upheld with both the Junior and Intermediate teams making progress! Year 8 students had the chance to do some first hand research today for their module on crime by talking to some Police Officers who visited their lesson! Our Year 7 and 8 netballers are off to a great start this season with some great wins already! Former student Jamie Hampson has been treading the boards at the Royal Court in the Liverpool Shakespeare Festival! Two of our Year 7 pupils, Faye and Isobel, were recently involved in a citywide road race for under 18s and both girls completed the race in record time! On Thursday 4th October, 20 Year 8 pupils represented St. Julie’s at the Lord Mayor’s Civic Service at Liverpool Cathedral. Well done to the seventy students from years 7, 8, 9 and Sixth Form who have taken part in a record breaking mass singing event! St. Julie's celebrated National Poetry Day today by immersing students in poetry chosen by all staff members! We were honoured to welcome Archbishop Patrick Kelly into school today, who toured the school, talked with students and blessed our Chapel. This evening we've had a wonderful time showing visitors why we're so proud of our School! It's Open Evening 2012! Students have been engaging in all manner of activities as our Modern Foreign Languages Department leads the the celebration of European Languages Day 2012! We celebrated International Day of Peace on Friday the 21st September, joining millions all over the world who also took time out that day to say a prayer for peace. Our Dining Room makeover has been well received by students, who are now enjoying the benefits of our summer refurbishment programme. Congratulations to 7 Nugent who have claimed victory in the Year 7 Inter Form Cross Country! Congratulations to Ellie Birchall who has won a role in the English Youth Ballet's production of Coppelia. With Olympics fever sweeping the country, we offer our most vocal congratulations to our two very own Olympians! After completing a written RE project on Hunger Cloths, Year 9 student Sophie Hassell-Richardson was inspired to get creative in her spare time and make a Hunger Cloth herself. Congratulations to our intrepid group of 20 Year 9 students who have completed their 15 mile walk and overnight camp for the Duke of Edinburgh Award! Last week, we were joined by past and present staff, Sisters of Notre Dame and some of our students to celebrate the blessing and official opening of our Faith Garden. Once again, the Design & Technology department delivered a Healthy Lifestyle event as part of the most recent PSHE day. Olympic fever has taken a firm grip at St. Julie's - with two Julie's Olympians at the games and a very special Year 7 assembly! The pupils and staff involved with the after school Digit club have been harvesting the fruits of their labours over the last few weeks. Students have had a day of multicultural awareness in our 2012 Languages Specialism Day! 14 girls from year 7 were selected to go on the Places of Worship day trip organised by Miss Russell. Year Five pupils from Bishop Martin explored the bloodthirsty text of Macbeth with the help of Year 10 GCSE Drama students. Prior to the start of their GCSE Art Course next year, some of our Year 9 students have been gathering inspiration! The Liverpool Marriott Hotel became awash with glamorous dresses and impossible heels as our Year 11 Students celebrated their Prom! We have been absolutely delighted to open our doors to visitors today for the first of our 2012 Open Evenings! We were pleased today to welcome into school our Year 7 students for September 2012! 15 of our Year 8 girls were lucky enough to attend this year's Notre Dame Conference held at Liverpool Hope University. The St. Julie's Year 7 Dance Company have been working hard in preparation for their annual dance tour! Congratulations to 7 Arrowsmith and 8 Arrowsmith who have taken the honours in their respective inter-form handball competitions! Congratulations to Year 11 who joined with parents, family members and school staff to celebrate their graduation from St. Julie's last week. At St. Julie's we've been celebrating National Schools Sports Week in style, with a whole host of fun filled activities! The Dorothy Stang Theatre has been rocking to the sounds of our 2012 Summer Band Night! We were very pleased to welcome Fr Ralph Hesketh, Bishop of Gibraltar, and Fr Tim Buckley into school for a celebration of Confirmations in our local Parishes. 20 of our Year 9 students are having a taste of adventure this weekend as they are enjoying a 15 mile hike in a practice session for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Year 5 students from Christ the King had a time warp experience as our Year 10 Drama Students took them back to the times of the Tudors! It's good luck to Ellie Birchall and Penny Haukedahl who are off to Las Vegas to compete in the 'Hall of Fame' Dance Challenge. Pupils from the Dig iT club have been spreading their good work beyond the school grounds as they participate in some community planting in Woolton Village! In the spirit of the forthcoming Olympics, we were delighted to welcome Years 1 to 5 from Much Woolton Primary School into St. Julie's for an activity packed sports day! Our Year 7 to 10 athletes are celebrating a gigantic victory in the Catholic Schools' Competition, winning by nearly 100 points! Students have been exploring different ways of praying through our interactive prayer room. St. Julie's and other schools in our partnership have united in our own mini Olympic torch event! Congratulations to our KS3 Dancers for their performance at the John Moores University Spring Dance Festival earlier this year. Our Year 11 Dance Group are celebrating the completion of their course with a trip to the theatre tonight to see Sister Act - The Musical! Year 7 have been flexing their linguistic muscles in a spelling competition with a twist - the entire contest was conducted in French and Spanish! On the 17th May 2012 her Majesty the Queen visited Liverpool's docks, and some of our students were there! Read Emma Ladanowski's report... Years 10 and 13 have been making a dramatic impact recently, with a great A2 performance evening and some collaborative work with Merseyside Police. We are delighted to annouce that St. Julie's has once again been awarded Artsmark Gold Status by the Arts Council! Our Year 7 and 8 Athletics team have had a terrific result, winning the first round of the English Schools' Athletics Event! Congratulation to Beth and Megan, two of our Year 8 students, who have won a competition to name 'Appebite' - a new coffee shop in Woolton Village! Our Year 7 and 8 hockey teams got the chance to meet a national player yesterday as the 'Big Dribble' hockey roadshow came to town! We've now had confirmation that both the Year 7 and Year 8 Netball Teams have won their leagues this year! The school community joined today in celebrating the fruits of a hugely successful Spring Term with a series of reflective services to prepare us for Easter. Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 indoor athletics team for a hugely impressive performance at the North West of England Sports Hall Athletics Final! On Wednesday the 28th March the Music department held an 'open mic' night to raise funds for the Year 11 Prom. We were very pleased to receive in school today some visitors from the Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Massachusetts! It's a huge congratulations to two of our Year 7 students who played in a County Hockey Tournament on Sunday! The Sports Relief activities have been continuing today as our students begin walking their Sport Relief mile. This week we joined our Sister School, Notre Dame Everton Valley, in celebrating 161 years of Notre Dame Education in Liverpool.
