European Day of Languages 2009

European Day of Languages is held annually on 26th September but, not ones to miss an opportunity to have fun, Saint Julie's staff and pupils celebrated the day on Friday 25th September in style! All pupils were given the opportunity to participate in at least one activity during the day to raise money for Marie Curie.  Money is still coming but at the last count we had raised £38.

Events included: Guess the German name of the bear, Guess the number of sweets in the jar in Polish, a European themed Quiz and a "Design an ideal bedroom" competition in French. Year 8 had a Treasure Hunt for which the clues were written in French, German and Spanish and year 9 spent their language lessons at our very own French cinema, watching 'Les Choristes' and 'Les Simpsons!'.

Year 7 have made European themed boardgames with some very challenging questions in their language lessons in the run up to the event which will be on display on Open Evening should you want to try them out!

The school was again decorated beautifully with balloons to celebrate the event and sixth formers were on hand all day helping members of the MFL Faculty in their endeavours to make the day a success! Our thanks go to them for all their help.

Winners of the best Boardgame competition and the Treasure Hunt will be announced in assemblies next week. The winning score on the quiz and the winner of the best ideal bedroom design will also be publicised so watch this space!

Winner of the 'Guess the name of the bear' competition was Molly Robinson in 7 Ward. The bear was named Hilda by Miss Bayton! The lucky winner of the sweets was also in year 7 and guessed 413 correctly (or czterysta trzynaście!), that was Kelsey Mellor of 7 Southworth! Well done ladies!

Winners of the European Day of Languages quiz are: Sofia Riccio, Lucy Stanford and Elizabeth Fletcher in year 9 with 99% - Well done ladies, enjoy the Next vouchers!
