The Global Adventures of Flat Julie

2016 is a special year for us, as it marks two centuries since St. Julie died and so we're celebrating 200 years of her amazing legacy.

We decided to show how we keep St. Julie in our lives by taking Flat Julie on a tour of our school. You can see some of the photos here:

Flat Julie has made a visit to our Vice Chair of Governors for a senior staff meeting!

We then thought that it would be great to show how far St. Julie's legacy has spread by going global! We've sent Flat Julie out to visit other Notre Dame schools across the globe, and we've asked students at those schools to send us some photos of her in their part of the world! Keep checking back here we'll add the photos as we get them!

And we're off! Flat Julie has winged her way across the Atlantic Ocean and slipped through the letterbox of the Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, Massachusetts in the USA. The students and staff there have given Julie a good tour of the site, and you can see their pictures below. Thanks guys!

We've had another postcard from Massachusetts, this time from the Notre Dame Education Center in Lawrence, which is an adult education centre that works with lower income, under educated adults in order to enrich and empower their lives, doing a particular amount of work with teaching English to non English speakers. The student featured in this first picture is Erlina, who is a junior high school student at nearby Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School who is on her work placement at the NDEC.

As well as our photos we're getting some lovely feedback from Sisters who are enjoying what we're doing.

"Love your cut outs!" Sr. Myra Poole

"Wonderful and imaginative idea. I enjoyed it all immensely. Well done to you all!" Sr. Isabel Smyth

"What a great idea, I think you will be blessed by Julie. Have a huge celebration and enjoy life!" Sr. Goldie Barton, Southport, UK.

"I love the global adventures of Flat Julie! Students you are awesome, congratulations for the success of Flat Julie! I love how our students have St Julie always present. Hugs and Lenten blessings to all of you from Boston." Sr. Barbara Gutierrez, Boston, USA.

Staying within the UK, we've had a lovely postcard from our friends at Notre Dame RC Secondary Girls School in Southwark. Flat Julie has had a tour of the school and even modelled a wristband for us. Thanks very much!

Flat Julie is having a great time in Massachusetts, as we've had a video postcard from our friends in Hingham where Flat Julie enjoyed the celebration of 'International Food Day'. You can hear what Academy President Jamie Collins has to say in this video clip below!

We've had the most delightful set of postcards from Andover, MA, where Flat Julie was celebrated at St. Augustine Elementary School. She was given a wonderful tour of the school, meeting students from right across the age range as well as her namesake - twice over! Flat Julie got to wear a shamrock to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and even enjoyed a science lesson, with safety goggles correctly in place! Thank you very much to Sr. Kathy Leary SND who sent the photos over.

Flat Julie is getting to enjoy lots of climates as she's out in the snow in the Cuvilly Arts and Earth Centre in Ipswich, Massachusetts. We've had some lovely photo postcards back from the children there, including Flat Julie spending some time in the greenhouses with the growing crops.

Flat Julie has made it all the way to the west coast of the USA! After a long journey, Flat Julie arrived at the Moreland Notre Dame School in Watsonville, California. As you can see in the pictures, she's already found a familiar face! She's also been on a school field trip with the 8th Grade to visit the State Capital!

We can't really put Cyberspace on the map, but Flat Julie is doing a little touring with Sister Kristin of Notre Dame Virtual Schools fame! Here Julie is with some posters at home base!

Back on to the East Coast of the USA now with a lovely postcard sent by Jordan Oliver from the Maryvale Preparatory School in Lutherville, Maryland. Here Flat Julie meets some of the students from the Sixth Grade. We've also had a photo update with Flat Julie helping some students make lunch for the homeless in Baltimore.

After lots of activity in the USA we're across to the other side of the world now, as Flat Julie sends her first postcards from the beautiful country of Japan! A big thanks to Sister Mary Corripio SND from the Notre Dame Seishin Junior and Senior High School for showing us their display at the front of their school in Hiroshima.

We're over to Europe now as we've had a lovely set of photos from Evelien Lust at OLV Pulhof secondary school in Antwerp, Belgium. They've had a fantastic celebration of the Year of Julie that has just started off with students right across the school getting their own Flat Julie to take photos with.

With some handy needlecraft, Flat Julie also isn't so flat anymore! See the slideshow for the amazing doll that travels to lessons with Ms Lust. She already has quite a following!

Heading back to the USA, Flat Julie has been having some fun visiting the Sisters at the Notre Dame Spirituality Centre in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Whilst not a visit to one of our sister schools, Flat Julie did sneak into a suitcase of one of our students for a sightseeing tour of Oslo in Norway!

We're back to Baltimore in Maryland for a lovely set of pictures from Barbara at the Sisters Academy of Baltimore who enjoyed Flat Julie Day with a great tour from students there.

We're a bit closer to home now for a wonderful set of pictures from Notre Dame Sheffield, where Flat Julie has been embracing school life as well as meeting the Bishop!

We're hopping over the English Channel again for a very special set of pictures as these were taken by students at the Etablissement Soeurs Notre-Dame right back where it all began in Namur in Belgium. Thank you for sharing them with us!

Now it's back to the USA for a trip to the Notre Dame Healthcare Educational Bridge Center in Worcester, MA. After meeting some of the staff and students Flat Julie was lucky enough to be taken to enjoy the thunderous atmosphere at Fenway Park for a Boston Red Sox Baseball game!

We've added a new continent to our list! It seems that Flat Julie sneaked into our Chaplain's guitar case when Mr Anderson visited Cameroon on the West Coast of Africa! Have a look at the video below to see Flat Julie meeting local communities, seeing the sights and even saying hello to two Bishops!

We've had a wonderful booklet sent to us from the Notre Dame Seishin Elementary School in Okayama City in Japan. The booklet has been made by some of the students who tell us a little about themselves in English. The school has an 'international course' where 30% of lessons are taught in English to try and foster outstanding skills in English at an early age. We're very grateful for their hard work, and you can view the booklet here.

Back over in the USA, we've had a fabulous set of postcards from Flat Julie in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, courtesy of Pamela Bernazani, the Dean of Students at the Academy of Notre Dame. Check them out below!
